This entry-level position is a unique learning experience for individuals interested in a career in accounting and taxation.

You will work as a member of a team, conducting audits of entities engaged in business activities in Nebraska, to determine if they have properly reported and paid state taxes.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree with a minimum of 24 hours of accounting, which includes auditing and tax;
     
  • A course in business law;
     
  • Good written and oral communication skills; and
     
  • A commitment to pass the CPA Examination.

Benefits include:

  • Experience. You will conduct detailed audits of businesses, ranging from sole proprietorships to multinational corporations, and work with a variety of accounting and computer systems.
     
  • Salary. You will earn a competitive salary (click here for a complete list of Revenue pay classifications).
     
  • Become a CPA. With three years of experience as an Auditor, you will fulfill the experience requirement to practice as a CPA. The Department pays for a CPA review course, CPA Examination fees, and CPA permit fees in Nebraska. We also allow work time to take the CPA Examination.
     
  • Overtime Compensation. The typical work week for an Auditor is 40 hours. If you work more than 40 hours in a work week due to workload or travel, you will receive time and one-half compensation for overtime hours.
     
  • Travel. While the majority of the travel is within Nebraska, you will also have the opportunity to travel nationwide. Overnight travel averages four to ten weeks per year.
     
  • Reasonable Workload. Audits are scheduled on a time-available basis. There is no heavy tax season, leaving you with time to study for your CPA Examination.
     
  • Advancement Opportunities. You can advance to the Auditor Senior position by meeting performance standards.
