Credit Card Payments FAQs

What is ACI Payments, Inc.?

ACI Payments, Inc. (formerly Official Payments Corporation) is a provider of electronic payment options for federal, state, and local government entities. Taxpayers use ACI to pay their government taxes and fees, using their credit cards via telephone or Internet.

Does ACI charge a convenience fee?

Yes. You will be notified of the fee amount before you complete the transaction, and have the option of canceling the payment by credit card and mail your check to the Nebraska Department of Revenue.

Are these credit card transactions secure?

The system has been tested and proven. The IRS and more than 2,000 state and local governments have chosen ACI for this purpose. The information you provide is private and kept confidential.

What if I change my mind?

After making your payment, if you decide to reverse the credit card transaction, remember that you will still owe tax. If unpaid by the due date (click here for a Calendar of Due Dates), you will be subject to penalty and interest. If you change your mind and still need to pay your Nebraska tax, mail a check or money order to the address shown on your return (under the signature block).

If you are paying individual income tax, you should write on your check or money order, the primary social security number used on your tax return, the tax year, and the Nebraska form you filed. Optionally, you can download a Nebraska Individual Income Tax Payment Voucher, Form 1040N-V. Complete all parts of the voucher, attach your check or money order to it, and mail it to the address above.

How will I know if my payment was received and accepted?

The ACI system will provide you with a confirmation number at the end of the transaction. This confirms the payment transaction was received and processed by ACI. Also, look for your tax payment to appear on your credit card statement. You can also review details about your payment on the ACI website. Go to acipayonline and click on "Payment Verification" on the ACI home page. You’ll be asked to provide ACI your confirmation number, email address, and the last four digits of the credit card you used to make your payment. The system will confirm the amount of your payment, convenience fee, total payment, and the date your payment was made. Payments made using the 800-2PAY-TAX telephone system can be verified by calling 866-621-4109.
