EFT Payment Procedures

To ensure successful completion of your EFT tax payments, follow the steps below

EFT Debit Procedures

If you have selected ACH Debit as your payment method:

  1. Determine the data fields you must report on the preprinted tax return for the tax you are paying. This includes your Nebraska ID number, your tax type, and the tax period for which you are reporting. Carefully review the instructions shown in your EFT Debit User Guide for the type of tax you are paying. This will familiarize you with what is needed and how it works.

  2. Determine what date you want your payment to transact on (scheduled payment date), and the amount you will be paying.

  3. Record your scheduled payment date and amount.

  4. Keep record of what your E-Pay system password is. If you have never used the E-Pay system, the first time you access it, your password will be your Nebraska State Identification Number (or your social security number if paying individual income tax). You will be able to change it once you are into the system.

If you are initiating your ACH Debit payment using the telephone:

  1. Use the EFT system calling instructions shown in your EFT Debit User Guide for the type of tax you paying. You can choose to use either the touch tone entry method, or you can report these figures directly to an operator. Select the instructions that correspond to your choice, and place your call.

  2. When your call is answered, record the operator name and extension number if you decide to use the operator-assisted option. Reference this operator number when contacting the department with any questions or complaints about service. Enter (or report) your payment information. Operator-assisted service is available between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Central Time.

If you are initiating your ACH Debit payment using the Internet:

  1. Be sure your password has been set to a four-digit number other than the temporary 0000. CLICK HERE to use the ACH Debit Internet payment option. You will be presented with a series of payment entry screens where you can enter your payment information.

If you are using the First Data Government Solutions EFT Debit origination PC software:

  1. This software will display a screen into which you can enter your payment information.

For all methods:

  1. You must initiate your payment prior to 4:00 p.m. Central Time on the due date to ensure your payment is timely.

  2. When you have completed the payment process, record your reference number provided to you by the EFT system. This is your receipt of payment.

EFT Credit Procedures

If you have selected ACH Credit as your payment method:

  1. Provide a copy of the Nebraska ACH Credit CCD+ Addendum Record Format to your software provider for customization if needed.

  2. Determine the data fields you must have coded in your ACH Addendum record. These can be found on your preprinted tax return for the tax you are paying. This includes your Nebraska ID number, your tax type, and the tax period for which you are reporting. Your Nebraska ID number and tax type should remain constant; however, your tax period ending date will normally change with each payment you send.

If this is your first attempt at making an ACH Credit payment to Nebraska:

  1. Using the information in step #2 above, instruct your software provider or financial institution to prepare and submit a test transmission to the state which includes a correctly formatted Nebraska CCD+ Addendum Record. This test should be a $.01 (one cent) payment. You will be notified in the event that the Addendum record is formatted incorrectly.

Upon successful completion of test, and when you are ready to make a payment:

  1. Arrange for the creation and transmission of your ACH Credit files to the state’s bank.
