ELECTRONIC FILING EFFORTS

LINCOLN -- Tax Commissioner Doug Ewald, today announced that electronic filing (E-filing) of tax returns exceeded 525,000 returns in Processing Year 2007 to date. We would like to take this time to thank all the taxpayers that have utilized electronic filing.

We estimate electronic filing will be over 60% of the income tax returns received by the Department which is a 7% increase from the prior year. In addition, there were over 295,000 refunds that were direct deposited to taxpayer accounts who e-filed.

Commissioner Ewald stated “The Department of Revenue is excited about exceeding the half million (500,000) threshold for e-filed state income tax returns.” E-filing is the right thing to do. Taxpayers receive their refunds faster, it saves paper, it’s more accurate, and it saves mailing costs.

For those filers wanting to know the status of their tax refund, please go to our Internet site at www.revenue.ne.gov or call our toll free number 1-800-742-7474.
