Nebraska Sales Tax Rates

• The Nebraska (state) sales tax rate is 5.5% (.055).

Sales Tax Rate Finder is a program that returns the appropriate sales and use tax rate and calculates sales and use tax for a given address or nine-digit zip code.

Notification to Permitholders of Changes in Local Sales and Use Tax Rates (updated 3/1/2013)

Effective July 1, 2013, the city of Platte Center will start a local sales and use tax at the rate of 1.5%.  Also effective July 1, 2013,  the city of Sidney will increase its local sales and use tax rate to 2%.

These cities have complied with the notification requirements established under the Local Option Sales and Use Tax Regulations. The Department has sent written acknowledgments to the city clerks acknowledging compliance with these requirements and the effective date.

Notification to Permitholders of Changes in Local Sales and Use Tax Rates (updated 12/3/2012)

Effective April 1, 2013, the cities of Cairo, Cordova, Franklin, and Murray will each start a local sales and use tax at the rate of 1%, and the city of Arlington will start a local sales and use tax at the rate of 1.5%.  Also effective April 1, 2013,  the cities of Bennington, Sargent, and Verdigre will each increase its local sales and use tax rate to 1.5%; and Alma and Waterloo will each increase its local sales and use tax rate to 2%.

Notification to Permitholders of Changes in Local Option Sales and Use Tax Rates (updated 9/4/2012)

Effective January 1, 2013, the cities of Juniata and Sterling will each start a local option (city) sales and use tax at the rate of 1%.  Also effective January 1, 2013,  the city of Oxford  will increase its local option (city) sales and use tax rate to 1.5%.
