Fall 2008

Your opportunity to learn about business taxes.

Horizontal Rule

Schedule

The Nebraska Department of Revenue is here to help you. Our semi-annual educational seminars are designed to help people understand how sales and use tax works, and how it applies to their businesses. Best of all, they are presented in a plain-and-simple, down-to-earth manner. In addition, we have invited other states' departments of revenue to join us to give you information about the sales and use tax rules and regulations in those states. Joining us are:

Bullet In Sioux City, the Iowa and South Dakota Departments of Revenue; and
In Omaha, the Iowa Department of Revenue.

New Tax Credit Program!

Did you know that there is a new program under the Nebraska Advantage Act that provides refundable income tax credits specifically for individuals involved in microenterprises? Information about the Microenterprise Tax Credit program will also be presented.

CPE

Each of the sessions presented by the Nebraska Department of Revenue for Sales and Use Tax and Contractors qualifies for 4 hours of CPE credit.

At these seminars you'll learn:

If you sell things or provide certain services --

When you're supposed to collect sales tax;

Who and what is exempt from sales and use tax;

What to do when you make a tax-free sale;

How to complete your sales and use tax return;

When delivery charges are taxable; and

What use tax is and when you might owe it.

If you are a contractor --

How recent law changes affect you;

How to properly remit sales and use tax;

When building materials may be purchased tax-free;

How to document your tax-free purchases of building materials;

The proper forms to use when doing a tax-exempt job; and

How to properly avoid Nebraska tax when doing a job in another state.
